The Delmont City Council has approved an ordinance that bars residents from keeping insects, fowl, and certain animals within the city limits on residences 11 acres or smaller.  The Mitchell Daily Republic reports that the council passed the ordinance by a 4-2 vote at a special meeting on Thursday.  More than 50 animals, including chickens, horses, cows, mules, sheep, goats, and snakes are banned.  Common household pets are not affected by the ordinance.  The ordinance was drawn up after a complaint about a Delmont resident who owns about 20,000 bees.  It is possible that the ordinance can be referred to a public vote.
