Governor Dennis Daugaard was in Wessington Springs on Thursday touring the damaged areas from last week’s tornado and assessing the relief efforts.  He says he is impressed with the cleanup and the demeanor of the residents of Wessington Springs.

The governor says the generosity of the public is critical, as few, if any, federal dollars will be available for individuals in Wessington Springs who suffered losses.  Cash contributions can be made by logging on to www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.  A relief fund has also been set up at American Bank and Trust locations throughout South Dakota.

Mayor Melissa Mebius says residents can use plastic storage totes and some household items like laundry baskets.  She says they do not need any more donations of clothing or bottled water.
