Dolly Parton has voiced her disappointment after the abandoned dog she planned to adopt was returned to its owners.

The country legend vowed to take home the white lurcher, which was found at Britain’s Glastonbury Festival last month, after the animal was admitted to a nearby shelter and named Dolly to mark Parton’s iconic performance at the event.

However, the dog’s owners came forward to claim the pooch, and Parton has now expressed her sadness that she won’t be taking a new pet back to America.

In a video message, she says, “I was kinda disappointed because I was planning to take her home, I was going to name her Glassie for Glastonbury. I couldn’t have called her Dolly, that would have been a little confusing… We got a call from the main people with the government and they told us that the true owners did come forward. There was a language barrier; I think they were from another country. They got the dog back so I don’t get to take her home. I was looking forward to it.”

Parton insists she plans to check up on the dog regularly “to make sure she is good”.
