AFI lists top films, TV shows of 2013

LOS ANGELES (AP) — “Gravity” has made it on the list of the American Film Institute’s top 10 movies of the year. “Captain Phillips” also made the cut, along with “12 Years a Slave” and “Fruitvale Station.”

There’s also a bunch of movies that haven’t been released nationwide, including “American Hustle,” “Her,” “Inside Llewyn Davis,” “Saving Mr. Banks,” “Nebraska” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Some of the critically-acclaimed movies that didn’t make the cut are “The Butler,” ”Dallas Buyers Club,” “All Is Lost,” and “August: Osage County.”

“Breaking Bad” and “Scandal” are among the American Film Institute’s top 10 TV shows of the year.

“The Americans,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Good Wife,” “Mad Men,” “Veep” and “House of Cards” also made the cut.

“Masters of Sex” and “Orange Is the New Black” round out the list. Some very popular shows didn’t make the list, including “Modern Family,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “American Horror Story,” “The Walking Dead,” “Homeland,” “Girls” and “Downton Abbey.”
