A variance request for a new Subway restaurant in Mitchell resulted in a 2-2 vote from the Mitchell Planning and Zoning Commission yesterday. The new building would be located at 802 North Sanborn. The new restaurant will include a drive-thru. The request was for a front yard variance of 19.6 feet as opposed to the 35 feet required in city code. The 35 foot requirement serves to avoid fire hazard issues as well as for visual purposes. The Mitchell City Council will hear the variance request at its Monday night meeting.
