It looks like the Mitchell VFW will be closed this Memorial Day weekend due to the pending demolition of the former Longhorn Bar building. Complications arose when it was discovered that a shared wall between the Longhorn building and the VFW is in danger of collapsing. Mitchell Public Works Director Tim McGannon says plans are proceeding slowly and carefully. A temporary non-load bearing wall is being built so the shared wall can be taken down. The Mitchell VFW has been closed since May 14. It is uncertain when it will be allowed to open.
