Governor Urges Safe Driving During Holiday Period

Governor Dennis Daugaard is asking motorists to use caution and make safe choices as they travel South Dakota highways during the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.  Over the last five years, an average of 113 highway crashes occurred during the 4th of July crash reporting period.  About 12 percent of those crashes involved alcohol.  On average, two deaths and 42 injuries have ocurred during each of the past five Independence Day holiday periods.  The holiday reporting period begins at 6 pm Wednesday, July 3 and runs through 11:59 pm on Sunday, July 7.
