PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Casinos in the South Dakota gambling town of Deadwood will soon be able to offer special slot machines that are linked to machines in other states to provide larger jackpots.
The Legislature’s Rules Review Committee has given final approval to rules allowing progressive slot machines in Deadwood to be connected to slot machine systems in other states.
Larry Eliason with the South Dakota Gaming Commission says the system will allow jackpots ranging from a few hundred thousand dollars up to millions of dollars.
Money bet in a progressive slot machine gives players a chance to win a smaller prize on that machine, but part of the bet goes into a pool that is won when a player hits the progressive jackpot.
The new system may start by February.
