New SD Park To Be Dedicated

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard and Iowa Gov. Terry Brandstad will be joined by tribal leaders and Game, Fish and Parks officials at the dedication of Good Earth State Park at Blood Run, South Dakota’s first state park in 40 years.

The 615-acre state park is the 13th state park in South Dakota. Blood Run was designated a national historic landmark in 1970. The area along the Big Sioux River bordering Iowa was used by thousands of Oneota Indians into the early 1700s. The area includes a large oak forest, rolling hills, flood plains, riverside bluffs and burial mounds.

The ceremony starts at 11 a.m. Guided hikes of the park will be offered following the ceremony.
