Sioux Falls police say a Mitchell woman was involved in an incident that began around midnight Wednesday at the eastside Wal-Mart. It ended after a chase that led officers to Brandon. Police say they were called for a strong-armed robbery, assault and shoplifting, but the suspects had fled before officers arrived. The suspect vehicle was located a short time later and a traffic stop was attempted but the driver refused to stop and the chase that resulted continued on Interstate 229 and then I-90 until it ended in the Brandon area. The driver, 28-year-old Joanne Swallow of Mitchell, was jailed for aggravated eluding, three counts of abuse and cruelty to children, shoplifting and driving while suspended. A front-seat passenger, 34-year-old Robert Salinas of Sioux Falls, was jailed on the same eluding and abuse and cruelty charges, as well as aggravated assault on law enforcement, second-degree robbery, resisting arrest and being a fugitive from justice. Three minor children who were not injured were taken into protective custody and a 58-year-old backseat passenger had minor injuries.
