Mitchell City Council Votes To Hire City Adminstrator

The Mitchell City Council on Monday night voted in favor of hiring a city administrator.  The vote was 5-3 in favor of the hire.  At the beginning of the half hour discussion, Mayor Ken Tracy proposed adding the administrator through an ordinance which could have been referred to a public vote.  However, the motion voted on by the council and proposed by Councilman Dan Allen allowed the city to simply make a new hire, which is not referable to a public vote.  The city administrator is similar to the chief operating officer of a company.  He or she will be in charge of the department heads, as well as acting as a full-time assistant to the mayor.  A typical salary for the position is between 80,000 and 100,000 dollars.
