Mitchell City Council Set Election Date

Mitchell City Council Set Election Date

The Mitchell City Council set the election date for the referendum petition for an ordinance authorizing the sale or consumption of wine on sidewalks in downtown Mitchell.  The council voted 5-2 in favor of the ordinance last month.  A group of Mitchell residents started a petition drive to put the issue on the ballot.  Mitchell City Finance Officer Marilyn Wilson says enough valid signatures were collected.  The council set the date for June 3, 2014.  The election will also include four city council seats and one school board seat.  The ordinance cannot go into effect unless residents vote in favor of it next year.
