Mitchell City Council Gets VFW Update

Mitchell City Council Gets VFW Update

The Mitchell City Council received an update on the VFW and Longhorn Bar buildings Monday night.  The city purchased the building that formerly housed the Longhorn Bar with the sole intent of demolishing it.  However, a common wall shared by that building and the adjoining VFW was found to be unstable and unsalvageable, causing the VFW to be closed for a month.  A committee has been formed consisting of city council members Dan Allen and Phil Carlson and three VFW members to discuss how to proceed with the VFW building and how to resolve the situation.  Mitchell VFW Commander Pat Ziegler says he is looking forward to working with the city to resolve the situation.  The committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday afternoon at the mayor’s office at City Hall.
