Hughes County Sheriff To Be President Of National Sheriffs’ Association

The sheriff of South Dakota’s Hughes County is taking over as the new president of the National Sheriffs’ Association.  Mike Leidholt was installed Wednesday evening during the group’s yearly convention in Charlotte, N.C.  Leidholt joined the association’s board of directors in 2003. He was first elected to a leadership position in 2008 and has been moving through the officer positions each year to reach the president’s seat.  He says one goal he wants to promote during his one-year term is the 24/7 alcohol monitoring program started in South Dakota.  Leidholt is the second South Dakota sheriff to lead the national organization. Davison County Sheriff Lyle Swenson of Mitchell led the group in 1989.
