Centerville Teen Dies In Three Vehicle Accident

A Centerville teen died in a three vehicle crash on Friday on Highway 46, three miles west of Beresford.  16 year old Peter Auch was driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am eastbound on Highway 46 near Beresford.  54 year old Diane Robertson of Wagner was driving a 2012 Buick Enclave westbound.  A third vehicle, a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 18 year old Dillon Buchanan of Irene was traveling westbound behind Robertson’s Enclave.  Buchanan attempted to pass Robertson, but Auch’s Grand Am was traveling eastbound.  Buchanan swerved left and struck a guardrail cable.  The passenger side of his vehicle struck the center of the passenger side of Auch’s vehicle.  Auch’s vehicle spun into the path of the Enclave.

Auch was airlifted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, where he died.  Robertson and Buchanan suffered minor injuries.  A passenger in Buchanan’s vehicle, 18 year old Jacob Halldorson of Madison, MN, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.  The SD Highway Patrol is investigating.
