BID Proposal To Be Discussed At City Council Meeting

Visitors to Mitchell who stay in hotels may be paying a little more for their rooms.  A BID, or business improvement district, has been proposed, which would place a one dollar tax on all occupied hotel and motel rooms in the city.  First reading of the BID is on tonight’s Mitchell City Council agenda.  The BID is projected to raise about 170,000 dollars annually.  Half of the money would help fund a second sheet of ice for the Mitchell Activities Center, while the other half would create a sports authority.  The authority would work to attract sporting events to Mitchell with an emphasis on multi-day events which would require an overnight stay.
