Beeney Sentenced To 35 Years In Prison

Beeney Sentenced To 35 Years In Prison

A Kansas man who assaulted an officer and escaped from the Huron jail pleaded guilty and was sentenced Friday morning.  Charles Beeney, 45, appeared in a Beadle County Courtroom.  Beeney is serving time in Sioux Falls after pleading guilty to aggravated eluding for a high-speed chase through multiple South Dakota counties.  Beeney assaulted an officer in the Beadle County Jail in January and escaped. He was found in Sioux Falls later that night after being spotted in a laundromat.  In February, Beeney pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer and escape in the first degree.  Beadle County Deputy State’s Attorney Jeff Banks says they reached a plea agreement a couple weeks ago. On Friday, Beeney was sentenced to 35 years in prison, the maximum sentence as part of his plea agreement.  Beeney has been transported back to Sioux Falls to serve his sentences.
