Accident Near Lake Hanson Leaves Two Injured

A one-vehicle accident left two people injured Sunday afternoon near Lake Hanson.  The South Dakota Highway Patrol says 28-year old Thomas Totton of Mitchell was driving east along North Shore Drive, going about 45 mph as he approached a 30 mph curve.  Totton drove off the roadway, overcorrected, nearly hit a mailbox, slid across the roadway, and rolled into the ditch facing west.  Rescue workers had to pry the vehicle’s passenger door open.  Both Totton and 19 year old Terysha Roth of Hurley suffered minor injuries.  They were taken to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.  The vehicle, a 2011 Cadillac STS, is a total loss.  Totton will be charged with drunken driving, careless driving, and will be cited for a seatbelt violation.
