Governor Dennis Daugaard has proclaimed Friday, April 19, as “A Day of Remembrance” in observance of the 20th anniversary of the state plane crash that took the lives of eight South Dakotans, including Governor George S. Mickelson. The men were returning from Cincinnati where they had traveled in an ultimately successful effort to save the John Morrelll packing plant in Sioux Falls.
A decision on whether to keep the beach closed will come Friday.
The tribe earlier this month legalized the growth of marijuana on reservation land.
The Mitchell senator has served as chair of the SD Senate Transportation Committee.
