CLOSING AGS FOR March 14th, 2015. Cattle: Comments: Downside momentum persisted today but still in a range bound trade. The discounts remain under concern of lost export demand and slow retail buying as case prices remain high. Showlist estimates: up 14,000hd. (Tx./Neb./Ks.) Cash cattle last week: $161-162.50; today’s midday beef higher amid light movement. Hogs: Comments: A little bargain hunting it seems as June hogs fail to make a new contract low even as the April contract did. Had April closed over $62.50 a ‘key reversal’ would have been posted. Otherwise while the western interior made a new cash low for the move, midday cuts gained on the back of (mainly) loins. Interior hogs West dn. $1.19, East N/E. Midday pork cut outs up. $1.31 @ midday wire. GRAINS & OILSEEDS Corn: Bird flu feed concerns weaker exports, a lowered weekly in sections report and technical selling drawing us to the January lows. Nice bounce off lows late might be wheat-influenced or saturated selling (open interest up 30,000 in just a couple days). Soybeans: Choppy trade but largely pressured. Some selling on corn’s weakness as per meal; on no new Brazilian truckers strike; advancing South American harvest; and fears of more ‘switching’ on cheaper South American prices. Export inspections also down on week. Wheat: Held its head up most of the day on some apparent weather concerns, technical buying and a higher export inspections report. And, remember all the bullish tears over Ukraine’s crop because of Russia? Well, their government reports a 2014 harvest of 64mln.m/t’s vs. 63mln. year ‘despite’ loss of Crimea and fighting in the south-east; and grain stocks reported at up 22% on yr…..as soon as their new crop looks OK we could expect more competition? Needs the money?
