At 6 pm the gates open for the Longfellow Carnival. There will be bounce houses, face painting, balloon twisting, the Ford Drive for UR School, and the movie Fern Gully; all inside the playground. Cost is $10 per family. If you test drive a vehicle, you will earn $25 for Longfellow with no pressure to purchase. All those who drive will be put into a drawing for some prizes. There will be hot dogs, chips, and drinks for $1 each and free popcorn for the movie. Movie starts at 8:30 pm. Everyone is invited so come out and have some fun.

The DWU Department of Theatre, the Ron and Sheilah Gates Department of Music at DWU, and the Mitchell Area Community Theatre will combine forces this holiday season to bring “Scrooge, the Musical” to stage.
Auditions for the musical will be at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 22, and Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Pepsi-Cola Theatre for the Performing Arts.
All those interested in auditioning should come prepared to sing at least 16 bars of a Broadway show tune; bring sheet music for the accompanist.
Production dates for “Scrooge,” will be 7:30 p.m., Dec. 4-6, and Dec. 11-13; and 2 p.m. on Dec. 7 and Dec. 14, at the Pepsi-Cola Theatre.
The cast calls for one lead actor and many supporting characters, singers and dancers. Rehearsals are created and based on cast availability.

The Mitchell Area Safehouse is holding the Stomp Out Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Fashion Show at the Highland Conference Center on Thursday, September 25th, 2014 at 6pm. Tickets are available for purchase for $20 each or 10 for $150 at the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce and County Fair Food Stores. Proceeds from the event will go to support The Mitchell Area Safehouse and Visitation Center. The event will provide women in the Mitchell area a chance to see the latest fashions from local retailers while learning about the programs and services the Safehouse provides to women and children affected by domestic violence.

The American Red Cross is partnering with the Mitchell Fire Dept, Davison County Emergency Management & Davison County Search & Rescue to put on the Mitchell Home Fire Preparedness Project that will take place on Saturday, September 27th.
The purpose of this project to distribute fire safety information and to install 10-year lithium battery-powered smoke alarms in homes without adequate alarms. The goal is to knock on approximately 400 doors in the neighborhood south of Dry Run Creek Park.
If you are at home and answer your door on the 27th, volunteers will install your alarms.

The JVCC is working with Brenda Schulte at Lutheran Social Services on a financial seminar day. We are looking for door prizes for the people. We are expecting hopefully 100 people maybe more so items will be given in drawing form.
This will be Saturday, September 27 from 9:00 am to 3:15 pm. The event will be called Got Money? Ways to enjoy life with a plan.
We are also hoping to get donations for the food, water and pop. If your company can help with this please let me know. We are planning on having donuts in the morning and then lunch we were thinking sandwiches, chips and a dessert bar and then cookies for the afternoon snack.
This event will be free and open to the public. We are planning on requesting a head count for lunch so we can have a bit of an idea how many people to plan for.
