Fall Prevention Strategies and Screenings

Wednesday, September 23rd 2015 - 10:45 am - 11:30 am
at James Valley Community Center
100 W 1st Ave

Have you fallen in the last 6 months?
Do you steady yourself by holding on to furniture when walking at home?
Do you need to push with your hands to stand from a chair?
Are you ever light headed or dizzy?

If you answered YES to any of the above questions, please join therapists from Integrated Therapy Services (a division of Avera) as they present a four part series of FALL PREVENTION strategies and screenings.

Nationally, 1:3 adults aged 65 and older fall each year. Of those who fall, 20-30% suffer moderate to severe injuries. Do you know what to do if you fall? Do you know how to help prevent falls all together? Did you know that learning how to prevent falls can keep you living in your home longer and more safely?

This Fall Prevention program will help teach you strength and balance exercises, and discuss community mobility, assistive devices, appropriate footwear, home safety and the effects of low vision and medication on fall prevention. Sessions will be held at James Valley Community Center from 10:45-11:30 on:
Wednesday, September 23rd – Strength and Balance
Wednesday, October 7th – Footwear, Assistive Devices and Community Mobilty
Wednesday, October 21st – Home safety
Wednesday, November 4th – Vision and Medication and how they affect fall risk

Free personalized 1:1 fall screening will be completed on site after each session.
